Frequently Asked Questions
How often will I have to leave work?
Never! To achieve your NVQ you will collect evidence that shows your competency. This needs to be presented for assessment in a clear and structured way, e.g. in an A4 ring binder. This is known as a portfolio.
A portfolio contains the record of activities, evidence and assessment supporting your claim to units of competence. The portfolio can be a ring binder or box file. If products of work cannot be placed in such a file, then there should be a clear reference where this evidence is sited. Your portfolio should be well laid out so that someone fresh to the portfolio could easily find his or her way around it. Those evaluating the portfolio will be comparing the evidence you have produced against the performance criteria, ranges and knowledge requirements of the standards. It is therefore important that all the pieces of evidence and forms are appropriately marked, referenced and filed within the portfolio. You will receive advice from your assessor on the preferred portfolio layout and the general documents required.
Your portfolio will consist of the following:
- A copy of your C.V.
- Your job description.
- Details/history of the company you work for.
- Training needs analysis.
- An assessment plan on how you will achieve the NVQ.
- Records of all your assessor visits and feedback they give you.
- The national standards you are working to.
- Documentation for recording your evidence (tick sheets, matrix).
The evidence that proves your competence!
