Train to Gain
A local training provider is celebrating winning 2 'Train to Gain' contracts in their own right and 2 more in collaboration with other companies.
TQ Workforce Development, based near Daventry, will be working with small to medium sized companies to deliver training services for their employees.
'Train to Gain' is a recently launched, new service to help businesses get the training they need to succeed. It will offer employers easy access to quality training, match requirements with providers and ensure that training is delivered to meet employers' needs. Powered by Government through the Learning and Skills Council with an investment of £230m in the first year (2006/07), 'Train to Gain' will raise skills levels and the quality of training in businesses across England - this investment will rise to £399 m in subsequent years.
More than 22,000 individuals and 6,000 employers have already been helped by the Government's new £1bn national training programme in the build-up to the full national launch of the scheme across England in September.
"Under the 'Train to Gain' service almost anyone can work towards NVQs," explained TQ Workforce Development's, MD Jane Quarmby. "And it is up to the individual where and when they learn - at work, college or even in their spare time. There is a choice of over 600 subjects."
Each NVQ has 5 Levels - from Level 1, which covers basic work activities, to Level 5, aimed at senior management. Each NVQ is made up of units - each must be completed in turn to reach the required level. Training and assessment to NVQ Level 2 is offered free of charge, subject to eligibility, in, amongst others, the following occupational areas: customer service, business administration, warehouse and distribution, leadership and management, information technology, retail, security, horticulture and electrical and electronic engineering.
